Recertification Requirements
To maintain the CF certification, an individual must:
continue to comply with the CF Standards of Professional Practice;
accumulate 60 continuing forestry education (CFE) contact hours;
and
pay applicable renewal and recertification fees.
To maintain the CCF credential, an individual must:
continue to comply with the CF Standards of Professional Practice;
accumulate 15 continuing forestry education (CFE) contact hours annually;
submit evidence of any forestry related work (qualifying experience
will be applied to the CF experience requirement); and
pay applicable renewal fees.
Continuing Forestry Education
Prior to recertification (CF) or annual renewal (CCF), a CF and CCF must complete
continuing forestry education and submit evidence of meeting the requirements.
The following categories are accepted by the CF program.
Category 1-CF - Program content is directly related to the topics/knowledge content areas defined under the Certified Forester credential
Category 1-FCA - Program content is directly related to the topics/knowledge content areas defined under the Certified Forester/Forest Certification Auditor credential.
Category 2 - Programs which directly benefit professionals, but do not meet the requirements for Category 1.
Category 3 - Professional development and volunteer activities where the subject matter qualifies under category 1, such as presentations in a classroom, field, or lab setting; writing and publishing of forestry or forestry-related subject matter; or, service to the profession through volunteer work
Certified Forester credential
A total of 60 CFE credit hours are required for recertification.
Individuals with a recertification date BEFORE February 1, 2011
Cat 1-CF and/or Cat 1-FCA
30 credit hours, minimum
A maximum of 30 credit hours may be distributed between Categories 2 and 3.
Category 2 - Not to exceed 30 credit hours
Category 3 - Not to exceed 25 credit hours
Individuals with a recertification date AFTER February 1, 2011
Cat 1-CF - 40 credit hours, minimum
A maximum of 20 credit hours may be distributed among categories 1-FCA, 2, and 3.
Specific CFE Requirements - Forest Certification Auditor
Cat 1-FCA - 20 twenty hours, minimum
These 20 hours may also be used for the Certified Forester credential.
Candidate Certified Forester credential
Each CCF must annually submit a total of 15 CFE credit hours.
Individuals with a renewal date BEFORE February 1, 2009
Cat 1-CF and/or Cat 1-FCA
10 credit hours, minimum
Up to 5 credit hours may be distributed between categories 2 and 3.
Individuals with a renewal date AFTER February 1, 2009
Cat 1-CF - 10 credit hours, minimum
Up to 5 credit hours may be distributed among categories 1-FCA, 2, and 3.
