Student Activities
Hundreds of forestry students attend the SAF National Convention each
y ear. There truly is no better opportunity to learn from renowned experts
from across the nation and to make contacts and find out about job opportunities
and internships that will shape your professional career. Students are
invited to attend any of the scientific sessions and networking events,
at a significantly reduced fee! The fee has been lowered this year as
an incentive for more students to attend. Students also are invited to
participate in several special activities.
Student Reception and Orientation:
"Round ' Em Up... Move 'Em Out"
Wednesday, October 19
4:00-5:30 pm
This is the official opening event for students and provides essential
information on how to navigate through the 4-day convention. Students learn
the convention basics, the importance of networking, how to interact with
the exhibitors, and what the Foresters' Fund is all about. The session also
features leadership games that are designed to improve communication skills.
Quiz Bowl: Preliminary and Final Rounds
Wednesday, October 19
7:00 - 9:30 pm
This is an SAF convention favorite, designed to stimulate friendly
competition between teams of forestry students. Schools are teamed up
n an 'It's Academic' format and are questioned by a series of impartial
judges on all disciplines of forestry. Gather your team members now! Click

National Student Assembly(NSA)
Thursday, October 20
4:30-5:30 pm
This is the official business meeting of SAF's student members. The NSA
chair, Adam Jarrett, Teas A&M University, will review the issues discussed
at the House of Society Delegates meeting, held before the convention opening.
The students will also vote on the host school for the 2006 National Convention.
Billy Bob's Texas Student Event (E3)
Saturday, October 22
3:30 pm - 1:00 am
Fee: $20.00
Limited Availability - October 7 deadline Saturday evening, SAF student
members have the option of attending an evening of Texas entertainment
at a famous Fort Worth landmark - Billy Bob's Texas was formerly an open-air
cattle barn that has been reborn as a 6,000 square foot concert stage,
dance floor, restaurant, arcade, casino and live bull-riding arena. This
landmark has played host to many featured artists, including Gloria Estefan
and The Miami Sound Machine, Ringo Starr, .38 Special, Men at Work, The
Go-Go's, Steppenwolf and ZZ Top.
The fee includes round-trip motor coach transportation from the Fort
Worth Convention Center to Billy Bob's Texas and a general admission ticket
to Billy Bob's. The entertainment schedule for October 22 has not yet
been announced.
