Pittsburgh is a city at a crossroads as it moves from rustbelt to renewal. “Brownfields” where belching blast furnaces once roared are now “Greenfields.” The city’s “Three Rivers,” once some of the most polluted in the nation, now support sports fisheries.

Surrounding the city and reaching into the remote Appalachians are forests that beckon city dwellers to recreate and yet support a large and diverse forest industry.
