Cassie Phillips, Vice President, Sustainable Forests & Products, Weyerhaeuser Co.

Cassie directs the company's strategies for forest stewardship and issue management, forest certification, and relationship building with governments, customers, environmental groups and other stakeholders. She has over 25 years of experience in environmental negotiations and public policy, and had had a leading role in reaching consensus agreements on complex forestry subjects, including the Endangered Species Act. Cassie began her career as a forester, earning both forestry and law degrees from the University of Washington, and lives in the Seattle area.

The Business of Change
Businesses that don't change are businesses that fail. This is no less true in forest products than in other industries. Yet as foresters we are rarely trained in the disciplines needed to anticipate and adapt to change, let alone lead it. This talk will describe major trends driving change in forestry today, and the personal and institutional skills needed to manage this change.
