Scientific and Technical Concurrent Sessions
Abstract Submissions for Oral and Panel Presentations

Abstract Submission Deadline — February 28, 2011

Submissions relating to the convention theme are encouraged; however submissions are welcome on any of the many facets of forestry, including economics, education and communication, entomology and pathology, fire, forest ecology, geospatial technologies, history, international forestry, measurements, policy, recreation, silviculture, social sciences, soils and hydrology, urban and community forestry, utilization and engineering, and wildlife management.

Presentation abstracts will be single-blind peer–reviewed against the following criteria.

Review Criteria

  1. Clarity: the thought/expression/concept should be reasonable and comprehensible.

  2. Scientific approach: including definition of the problem, hypothesis, methodology, application, results, analysis.

  3. Practice of Forestry: should bridge the gap between science and decision making in the field of forest management.

  4. Originality: should report preliminary or novel results on limited data sets or applications of existing methodologies to new areas.

  5. Contemporary Topics: relevant to the convention theme and track themes that will appeal to a large number of attendees and contribute to professional development.

  6. Policy: local, regional, national or international policy or program analysis using quantitative or qualitative data analysis.

Abstracts accepted as meeting Criterion 1 and at least one of the other five may be accepted for the program. The number of submissions that can be accepted for the program will be limited by the number of rooms available and the number of 30-minute time slots scheduled. Abstracts selected to be part of the program will be published in a special convention proceedings.

All authors are encouraged to submit their full paper to the Journal of Forestry, Forest Science or to one of the Regional Journals of Applied Forestry. Paper submissions will follow the submission and review guidelines prescribed by each journal’s Editorial Policy. (For more detailed information, see http://www.safnet.org/publications/index.cfm.) The publication of an accepted conference abstract in the convention proceedings does not guarantee future publication of the full article.
