Committee on Forest Policy

The SAF Committee on Forest Policy is the mechanism for advising what steps the national office takes on various issues. Responsibilities of the committee include, serving as the policy advisor to the Council and its officers, providing the SAF Director of Policy with feedback on issues that are being addressed by the national office, and composing SAF position statements which are approved by Council. The Committee also assists with support for state and local policy actitivies, hosting a policy workshop at the SAF Convention and supporting the SAF Forest Policy Network, comprised of SAF state society and division representatives.

The committee is composed of SAF members from around the country representing a variety of organizations including, private forestry, academic institutions, and government agencies in order to reflect a "cross-section" of the SAF membership. Committee members serve a three year term with one-third of the committee being rotated off each year. The SAF Director of Policy serves as the staff liaison to the committee.
