GET INVOLVED IN FOREST POLICY ACTIVITY IN YOUR STATE!!
Policy activity is present at all levels of government. Federal policy
is often the level that is focused on because it directly affects the
entire nation. Forest policy activities at the state level directly
affect state residents and indirectly affect our entire nation. Forest
ecosystems know no boundaries. This is why we, as professional foresters,
need to get involved in state activities, whether in your home state
or in a neighboring state.
You can get involved by checking your state’s website for recently
introduced legislation as well as by tracking legislation as it develops
in the various committees and the two arms of the legislature. This
can prepare you to step in as a representative of the forestry profession
to talk with your state representatives in the legislature when forestry
issues arise. You do not have to do this alone though! Most state societies
have policy chairs who are available to assist in policy activities.
